Joplin Tornado: An Unfolding Tragedy

The tornado system that struck and razed the Missouri town of Joplin on May 22, 2011 was the most fatal single hit since 1950, and killed at least 130 people. Many, many structures fell just like a deck of cards, and the whole city looked like a ghost town littered with rubbles. President Obama paid a visit to Joplin on May 29, a week after the killer tonado devastated most of the town.

Space Shuttle Discovery Carrying Cosmic Ray Detector

The Space Shuttle Discovery has docked onto the International Space Station on May 18, 2011. The shuttle has carried the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS), a 7-ton cosmic ray detector that would scan the invisible universe.
